On Optimism

“If you assume that there is no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, that there are opportunities to change things, then there is a possibility that you can contribute to making a better world.”—Noam Chomsky

Designers are true optimists — they tackle real-life problems by using their optimism in the hope for a better future. But hope and optimism are not tickets to a brighter or better future — it’s not something you show and get instant access to. Things (usually) do not happen, because you wish for.

Optimism is a commitment to work hard, tirelessly, and, most importantly, consistently towards positive change. So, when you lose motivation while standing in dark, remember — where’s hope, there’s light.
